. FAQS page .

i've been meaning to make a FAQ page for quite some time.
the number one question i get is the process.
(what kind of wood i use, what to coat the panels, medium etc.)
i will be sure to make a detailed post on the process soon.

if you have any other Q's let me know,  and will try to include that.

we get hundreds of emails with questions, and i am sorry we can't reply to all of it.
email replying requires a lot of time, and i wouldnt be able to concentrate on my work if i did so.
Thank you for understanding.

  2. Hi, I would love to know what kind of visual references you use..if any?!
Do you draw a lot from memory or is there life drawing or photos involved.
I draw females within my artwork quite a lot too and wondered what it is that attracts you to the female form.
Loving the work, you are indeed prolific!
    Thanks
    Miss Nyss x

  3. There should be a confirmation if you sign up to your email news letter - it keeps me puzzled if I sign up and do not get a reply that I am signed up (or have to opt-in)

  4. It's really silly, but I have a hard time finding a good surface to mix my oil paints - what kind of material do you use? Is that a paper palette? :)
Look forward to reading your FAQ!
Love your work, it's so inspiring!

  11. I'm so exited that you're doing an FAQ page.
I'm curious to find out what type/size brush you use for outlining. And also, what type of medium you use on your oil paint.

  12. QUESTION: what do you recommend for beginners so they may get better? (i noticed i always come back to drawing portraits, but it's important to draw other things as well ... like still life and such.)

QUESTION: do you think you could post some pics of those cool (vintage) books/booklets you buy? and scan some of your sketches (not necessarily those used for your artworks to be shown in galleries, but more those that depict still life and random people or from art class and so on!)

QUESTION: is it better to invest a few minutes EVERY single day or a couple of hours every few days to sketch/draw/paint?

  13. 1: What's the typical process you go through in creating your art?
2: What visual references do you use to develop your art?
3: How did you develop your style?
4: Do you tend to extensively plan out your work before you start or just go right into it?

  14. How many hours a week do you paint? Do you have any habits/rituals/processes that you do to get you in the mood to paint or to take your mind to the "painting zone". I have a full time job + other hobbies. I find sometimes it's hard to get it all done. Could you share any tips?

Thanks for your time! I'm so excited that you are doing this.

  15. Hi Audrey, what are some of your go to books for inspiring your backgrounds? I notice that your photos will usually have a book nearby with flowers or patterns -- do you have any favorites?

  16. Can't wait to read this!

  17. Do you paint full time? How do you know how much to price your work for? Do you ever get burned out from being creative all the time? What do you do to recharge? Thanks for the opportunity to ask questions, I'm sure you're really busy! :)

  20. Hi Audrey! You are one of my deceased fiancee's favorite artists. I love your stuff also. Where do you get your prints made? What company?

  21. I asked you what type of wood you used, you answered maple, you sand it yourself and then apply acryilic gel before the oil paint :) I felt like God had talked to me :p ... well at least that God had replied my email ;)

  23. I would so so so so appreciate a FAQ page. Just because your art work is so beautiful and I have no idea how you can make oil look as good as you do. I'm beginning to work with wood panels and it's definitely a trial and error process!

  24. Audrey Kawasaki, why do you use thin layers and washes of oil on your paintings before actually starting on the image its self?

  25. Hell Audrey, I'm in love with the beauty of your art and the refreshing posts of your blogs, truly and wonderful human being and artist.
I was wondering where this page is, I would love to read about the wood and thickness you use. Do you paint over plywood or it is heavy wood. Hope you have a tiny so few, little time to post the link or answer me ;). And thank you for sharing, not all artists have time or desire to share this.

    Love and peace :o)).

I'm very interested in the wood process and technique; the type of wood used and wood preparation.
