Static Medium 20th Anniverary YAY!

This weekend, we’re celebrating 20 years of Static Medium! When Leah and Matt began making my prints, it was on a small scale. We'd promote them on LiveJournal and sell them individually through email. Times have certainly changed! What started small has grown into something huge, with Static now working with hundreds of artists from around the world. Through it all, they have remained my primary printers and photographers, and we've released so many print editions together.

Huge congratulations and thank you to Static Medium’s founders, Leah and Matt, and to the whole team they’ve built!

To mark the occasion, we’re taking a little trip down memory lane. For the first time ever, I’m re-releasing one of my prints. My Dishonest Heart is a special image that has meant so much to me and to so many of you over the years, and this timed edition is the first time it’s been available in a larger size. We also went digging through the archives and unearthed two of the very first prints we released back in 2006, HornGirl and OctoGirls, and we’ll be auctioning one copy of each.

I also designed a new tote bag for the anniversary party. It will be available online on Friday, so you can get it together with the print.

A personal note:

It’s hard to imagine what life was like 20 years ago. My main social media was LiveJournal, and that’s how I met Leah and Matt. My LJ fans started asking for prints, and Leah and Matt worked day jobs in printing, so they knew how to make it happen. They bought a small Epson, put it on their dining room table, and the rest is history. Looking back at how much fun we’ve had and how much we’ve achieved together since then, I’m so proud of us.

I made My Dishonest Heart around that time, when I thought I knew what the title meant. When you’re young, it’s hard to tell which voice is yours: your heart, your mind, your intuition, or the world around you. I’ve since walked paths led by both an honest heart and a dishonest one, and I’ve learned to give each of them room.

After marriage, a move to the UK, and now coming home to LA as a single mom, I’m starting fresh. I’m probably around the halfway point of my life, with many years of creating still ahead, I hope. Fearless self-expression is what I’m working toward next.
